Technique Training Tip #1
Apply this information for more effective technique development
Quality Over Quantity
To effectively improve the technique of a particular skill, make sure that you are fresh and alert when practising it. This helps you focus on it's correct execution. Regularly performing the proper movement reinforces the right neuromuscular pathways until correct technique becomes automatic. If you keep performing the skills incorrectly, bad form and technique can be programmed into your brain which will negatively affect your performance. Thus, if you notice that you can't execute a particular skill in the correct movement pattern anymore, stop practising it and advance to other parts of your training unit.
The above recommendation implies that technique training should be done first in your workouts. Do not, for example, start your training unit with general strength or endurance training. Instead, train technique first, and if necessary follow it by specialized exercises. Specialized exercises, which duplicate particular aspects of the total skill, also require a high energy state to improve technique and other sport specific abilities. After specialized exercises, general strength training can be performed. Endurance is generally trained at the end of the workout.
